Resolutions or goals?

Happy New Year to all!

I had the great fortune to spend a few of the last days of 2022 in the company of a good friend. Days were spent sliding on snow and nights with live music. In between were car rides filled with conversation. At one point she asked if I set resolutions for my new year, a normal topic for this time of year. My response was that I did not set a resolution for the new year , but spent time reflecting on the past year. A lot has happened. Personally and professionally. Some good, some bad. In the end I walk away positive.

When I asked if she set a resolution, she said no, but she set a goal. My experiential background springs quickly to life and partners my reflection with her idea of goal setting. All of it ties together, goals are easily adapted and changed as the year goes on. Using the principles of SMART goals, you could monitor it all year and change as needed. Come December of 2023, reflection would be around that goal and how to improve for the future.

What a great idea! So I ask if she has set a goal, and she says yes.

“Have more fun.” Simple not truly SMART, but I love it!

So to you all Happy New Year and remember to have more fun.
